True North Hardwood Plywood Inc. (“True North”) is a manufacturer of plywood used to make a variety of products including furniture and cabinetry, commercial millwork, wall paneling, stair parts, manufactured housing, and doors. True North filed a Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal (the “NOI”) on November 25, 2013 under the provisions of section 50.4 (1) of the BIA. Pursuant to the provisions of subsection 69 (1) of the BIA a stay of proceedings has been initiated and all proceedings against True North are stayed as of the date of filing of the NOI. The stay of proceedings may be extended by the Court from time to time. True North was unable to file a proposal within the Court-granted extensions of time and was thereupon deemed to have made an assignment in bankruptcy on May 21, 2014 and Dodick Landau Inc. has been appointed Trustee in Bankruptcy in this proceeding. On May 29, 2014, Dodick Landau Inc. was also appointed by the Court as Receiver of True North. On February 4, 2015, the Court approved the sale of the True North manufacturing facility by the Receiver to Rockshield Engineered Wood Products ULC (“Rockshield”) and on March 27, 2015 the sale to Rockshield closed. In April 2015, Rockshield re-opened the plywood manufacturing facility in Cochrane, Ontario and hired over 100 people from the surrounding communities.
