Brook McIlroy Inc.

Brook Mcilroy Inc. (“BMI“) was a firm of architects, landscape architects, planners, and urban designers which has been in operation since 2000.  It operated from studios in Toronto, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.  BMI’s work was driven by a uniquely Canadian design ethos derived from research into place, diverse cultures, Indigenous world views, sustainability, natural materials, and the application of new technologies.

BMI faced mounting challenges because of a number of overlapping factors that made it difficult to continue operations, including:  (i) industry-wide reduction in traditional commissions and contracts; (ii) several large projects underway which faced escalating costs and complexities including projects requiring additional work, contractor disputes and extensive project delays;  (iii) overhead has for many months been significantly higher resulting in operating losses; and (iv) mounting debt, and an unsustainable level of unpaid accounts receivable, resulted in a liquidity crisis.

On March 31, 2026 BMI had ceased operations, and on April 7, 2026 BMI assigned itself into bankruptcy and Dodick Landau Inc. was appointed as Trustee in Bankruptcy (the “Trustee”) of the estate of BMI.  The first meeting of creditors (the “Meeting”) took place on April 22, 2026.

If you are a creditor and you wish to complete a proof of claim form, you can find a copy in the creditor package.  Please complete it and return it to Brenda McKnight (brenda.mcknight@dodick.ca) by email.

The Trustee is in the process of collecting accounts receivable of BMI and arranging for the transfer of project materials to clients for ongoing projects.  Where necessary, the Trustee has commenced claims against clients in order to pursue collection of unpaid accounts receivable.
